[奥]卡尔·门格尔（Carl Menger，1840-1921） 现代经济学的奠基人，奥地利学派的开创者。门格尔1860年毕业于维也纳大学，做过律师、新闻记者和政府官员。1871年出版的《国民经济学原理》是他的成名作，1973年他凭此书在维也纳大学得到一个教席，1876年，他担任奥地利王储的导师，并陪同这位18岁的王储游历欧洲各国。1879年回国后，被任命为维也纳大学政治经济学讲座教授，从此安心于平静的学术生活。1883年，他出版了自己的另一部代表作品《经济学方法论探究》，1903年，门格尔辞去了一切教职，致力于修正和扩展自己原有的经济理论框架。1921年，他以81岁高龄溘然长逝。 门格尔的《国民经济学原理》20世纪50年代就被译介到我国，因此使他在中国读者中广为人知，但他另一部更重要的作品——《经济学方法论探究》直到今天才被翻译出版。
